THAI BOXING - also known as Muay Thai - is an ancient martial art, originating in Thailand over 2000 years ago. Many think that other martial arts such as Taekwondo and Karate are as old as Muay Thai, but many of them were only created in the last 100 years. There are many traditions surrounding this martial art; for example, prior to bouts, the two fighters dance around the ring to special music. This dance is called the Raam Muay or Wai Kru and is intended to honour and pay respect to the boxer's trainer, his religion, family, sport and the 'fighting spirits'.
Muay Thai is a very effective, offensive fighting technique. It is characterised as the Art of Eight Limbs (two shins, knees, elbows and fists), together with its unique clinchwork (a form of stand-up grappling). It is an exciting martial art to both watch and take part in, and nowadays there are strict rules to protect fighters.
Why Thai? people take up Muay Thai for many reasons, whether to learn an effective self defence technique or improve their overall fitness and stamina - you could burn up to 1000 calories in a typical training session!
NUTRITION PLANNING - Here at JRGYM we can provide you with a healthy yet fun diet plan. We believe a Balanced Diet comprising of healthy and diverse foods is key to promoting good health. After all, we are what we eat - Research continues to prove that eating healthy food promotes good health and unhealthy food habits lead to a diseased body. Foods contain vital nutrients that aid our body’s metabolic function. However, a lack of consumption of these nutrients or feeding upon the wrong kinds of food leads to an accumulation of toxins within the body, resulting in chronic diseases in the long run. A nutritious diet while ensuring overall well being, helps to maintain a healthy Body Mass Index (BMI), reduces the risk of several debilitating diseases like cancer, cardiovascular ailments, diabetes, osteoporosis and stroke. Wether you require a day by day diet diet plan along side an exercise regime or just general advice towards food habits JR GYM will have the answers for you...
FITNESS PLANNING - When considering a fitness plan you need to consider if you want to improve your fitness level or just maintain it. We will help you to adapt your program to the type of exercise you like to do and the type that you want to do. Clear goals should be set up so you have something to work to. At the beginning of your program we will plan a routine that starts out lightly and builds up slowly. In your plan we will include daily activities, nutrition & what the intensity level will be and how long you are going to do it for. You need to plan time in between your exercising to rest. Resting and recovery is an important part to plan because it is when you are resting that your body gets stronger by building up muscle.
PERSONAL TRAINING - There is a stereotypical idea of what a personal training session is all about. My own favourite is a vision of a rather large scary man shouting at me to get down to do more press ups and squat thrusts and then insulting me when I collapse in a heap on the floor! Thankfully this is not the case our sessions are designed to be fun and functional. However they won't be easy, 100% Effort is required by both client and trainer. Personal training can be tailored for almost any need, some examples are: Weight Loss, Rehab from Injury, Strength Training, General fitness, Fight Conditioning or Your first charity running event. Each personal training session is an hour long and for maximum results we recommend 2 sessions a week.
